Question: Cannot play mp4 files in samsung led tv 6 series - audio not working?

(Posted by: johnny on 2010-05-05 22:02:40)

When I play movies by connecting USB, I can view avi, mpeg files etc. But when I play mp4 files, it gives an error codec not supported, and audio does not work. I can see the visuals fine with no sound. What can be done to solve this?

Check your user manual that whether what type of files it can be supported....!!! Then you try to upload a .VOB (DVD file) on your USB and try..!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!

From what I understand, Samsung TVs are particular about what audio formats they will play. They do not play .mp4 files with some types of AC3 audio in them, for instance. AC3 is a type of digital audio encoding like MP3 and AAC. Ideally, you need AAC encoded audio in .mp4 files as that is the audio format normally used in them. If you are making these files, say in Handbrake, be sure to create audio track one as AAC encoded audio. If you are downloading these files, often people create .mp4 files with AAC audio. Look for AAC in the title to let you know that's how it is encoded.

We are able to play mp4 files on Samsung TV 6 series 46 in. using HDMI input. These are played from ipod classic and also from 1 TB external hard drive. Consult a technician from Samsung product care cell
